Practice Your Gardening With These Easy To Grow Indoor Plants

Winter can be a lonely time for anyone. With nothing to do outside and so much time inside, your rooms could start to look and feel a bit boring. Why not liven things up with some indoor plants. Even if you have never been a responsible plant owner, these plants are so easy to take care of that even the laziest person could care for these indoor plants.

Aloe

If you are looking for a plant that is tough then aloe is your plant. It only needs to be watered when the soil is dry and needs to be set in a bright area. Aloe has been used to treat various health conditions for thousands of years. To harvest aloe gel from a plant it needs to be a least a few years old. You can apply aloe gel directly to your skin or use it in food, smoothies, or homemade beauty products.

Make an Indoor Herb Garden

A great way to bring the smells of the outdoors in is with an herb garden. Herbs make great indoor plants because they fit in small containers, continue to grow after they are harvested, and are not too needy. The best spot to grow herbs is in your kitchen window but any window that gets lots of sunlight will do.

The Jade Plant

Jade is succulent and like all succulents, they require very little attention. Jade plants are known to live up to 100 years if cared for properly. Jade makes a great plant for your office desk or bedroom. It can grow to fill whatever container you put it in. Water infrequently every two weeks in the summer and even less in the winter.

The Peace Lily

Peace lilies prefer some light to partial shade but can even grow under fluorescent lights. The peace lily is a unique plant in that it tells you when it needs something. When there is too much light the leaves will turn yellow and if it gets direct sunlight the leaves will turn brown. When it comes to watering, the peace lily will let you know as well. To indicate thirst, the peace lily will start to droop. Peace lilies can purify the air of formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, and a host of other airborne toxins. The peace lily makes an ideal indoor plant because it enjoys the same temperatures humans enjoy. Peace lilies do not do well around cold drafts or temperatures below 45°F.

Snake Plant

Snake plants are some of the hardiest plants you can find. They’re easy to grow, but there are a few things you should know. Snake plants are the perfect indoor plant for the person who can’t remember to water their plants. Snake plants can tolerate very low levels of light and can withstand drought conditions better than most. Snake plants only need water every 2-8 weeks depending on the environment inside your home.

Hens-and-Chicks

Hens-and-Chick plants are another succulent that is perfect for indoor gardening. They are named for their rosetta shape and ability to produce numerous babies. When clustered together they look like adults with babies surrounding them. Place them in full sun and with well-drained, even gritty soil. Hens and chicks don’t need much attention and should rarely be watered as overwatering can create mold.
